Primarily responsible for coordinating materials, labor, and machine schedules for four production facilities in Denver, Salt Lake City, and Phoenix. Using internal reporting and information regarding current inventory levels, sales demand, and production capabilities, this position drives daily, and weekly production schedules aimed at optimizing inventory levels that meet evolving customer expectations. Consistent coordination with multiple departments is required as demands continually shift with changing business/customer expectations and situations.

Responsibilities

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Assess current inventory positions and sales demands of finished goods to establish a priority of items to be produced such that internal distribution efforts successfully meet customer expectations as effectively as possible. • Assess work-in-process and floor stock inventory positions to ensure adequate levels are maintained so that finished good production moves unimpeded while considering working capital demands of the company. Schedule production and place purchase orders as needed in maintaining appropriate levels in both these inventory positions. • Assess labor capacity at each facility to ensure effective understanding of capability each day/week scheduled. Regularly evaluate labor standards with production management to ensure realistic expectations are used in establishing daily/weekly schedules. • Assess machine capacity within each department and work center to establish realistic expectations in setting daily/weekly schedules. Regularly evaluate standards with production management while coordinating with maintenance team on machine outages and/or upgrades. • Using the inventory analysis and labor/machine capacity and efficiency understanding established above, create work orders to be produced by each department three to five days ahead that best balances customer demand with current production capability. Coordinate with production management on evolving priorities through execution. • Maintains bills of material, routing sequencing, and other item information within the ERP system to ensure accurate information is informing decisions throughout the production effort. • Presents efficiency and inventory position reporting to production management and other production personnel to aid in successful execution of the production plan.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business and/or at least 5 years of progressive experience in production planning. • Qualified applicants must be customer oriented and motivated with excellent oral and written communication skills. • Problem solving and organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines. • Ability to organize and prioritize job projects and requirements. • High proficiency with MS Office with broad experience with any ERP system and business analytics reporting tools. • Experience in steel fabrication a plus. • Ability to pass background check and drug screen. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees from various departments. Ability to effectively communicate with customers and staff to make an accurate assessment of customer needs. Ability to develop formal presentations as needed. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to verify and calculate figures such as daily demand, production efficiency statistics, and standard variance reporting. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations required to accurately complete assigned tasks. COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate level knowledge of business analytic databases and software packages as well as advanced expertise with spreadsheet software. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. Ability to use sound judgment and problem-solving skills to analyze customer problems and to recommend the proper course of action. Ability to organize and prioritize job projects and requirements.
