The primary function of the Purchasing Agent is to optimize inventory levels to provide sufficient quantities of product that will service all branch market areas while at the same time analyzing data to provide better decision points.


  • • Procures and manages inventory items by reviewing and analyzing purchasing system reports while considering lead times, standard quantities, payment terms, quantity discounts and purchasing budgets as appropriate and fiscally prudent. • Provides ongoing branch support by being constantly aware of branch customer and inventory needs and trends through regular communication with branch management and branch personnel. • Works with Lead Buyer, internal distribution team, branches and SMD personnel to evaluate new potential stocking items. • Monitors distribution issues that affect acquisition/sustainment decisions and review risk/benefits analysis of proposed recommendations and actions. • Using various data sources and systems, reports on Key Performance Indicators, metrics and performance trends. • Monitors and maintains system settings related to MPS, MRP and Inventory management. • Monitors and manages assigned inventory classes/vendors to maximize inventory turns and minimize excess inventory items at the Distribution Centers and where appropriate at the branches. • Provides inventory and distribution management support to assigned branches. • Closely monitors and promptly addresses non-stock items in inventory. • Minimizes non-productive inventory by promptly addressing overstock, slow-moving and dead items. • Negotiates and communicates regularly with vendor representatives on new items, freight, slow moving inventory, and distribution issues. • Serves as a liaison between the company and its vendors. Establishes and maintains professional and harmonious vendor relationships. Negotiates for improved financial positions with vendors as appropriate. • Coordinates with analytics department to maintain accuracy of item and vendor files. • Participates in product meetings, seminars and training schools to enhance and maintain professional and product knowledge. • Participates in improving operations by offering potential alternatives to existing methods. • Other duties as assigned.


  • • High school Education and a minimum of 3 years' experience in the purchasing field with a thorough understanding of purchasing principles in the HVAC distribution environment. • Experience with an automated buying system. • Strong communication, negotiation and management skills. • Ability to effectively communicate with branches and staff to make an accurate assessment of needs. • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office suite with strength in MS excel (inclusive of Pivot Table generation and analysis). • MRP planning experience a plus. • Analytical skills a plus. • Ability to organize and prioritize job projects and requirements. • Ability to effectively communicate with vendors and co-workers to make an accurate assessment of customer needs and to coordinate purchasing operations with other departments to ensure that the customer's requirements are satisfied. • Ability to pass background check and drug screen.
