The condensate drain pan, located below the evaporator coil, catches the condensate that drips off the outside of the coil as the warm moist house air passes over the coil. The cold refrigerant in the coil cools the air, causing the moisture to condense on the outside of the coil. This is how air conditioners dehumidify the house air.
